Complex hard beats on a journey into the magical forest! The Karsten Pflum album "Flugten fra aar 2000" [the flight from year 2000] is an ingenious and at times schizophrenic mix of themes from the middle-ages, cunningly cutup rhythms, sweet pop intermezzos, and something bombastically teasing. Pflum perpetually examines the borderline between narrative complexity and ambient vastness – underlined by a great deal of humor and irony, where still always caring greatly for his subtleties and details. Karsten Pflum - the 24-year-old Danish artist Jacob Helverskov Madsen – first drew attention to himself in 2002 by winning the ‘Danish Arts Councils’ award for young composer of the year. In the time passing he has released the album ‘Tracks’ on the English label ‘Worm Interface’, the EP ‘Dogcatcher’ on the Danish ‘Tender Productions’, and been featured on various compilations both within Denmark and the UK. As a live musician he has performed in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Denmark and England. His tunes have been played on a diverse number of radio programs both in and out of his home country, amongst these on the English BBC1’s Breezeblock and by the recently deceased John Peal.
